The Faculty of Medicine in Magdeburg is strengthening its teaching with the new professorship for medical didactics, teaching development, and educational research. Prof. Dr. med. Franziska Bäßler brings her expertise from Heidelberg to make the training of future doctors more innovative, digital, and practical.

Gentle catheter procedures for cardiac rhythm and heart valves will be the focus of the next Medical Sunday on November 16, 2025. Prof. Dr. Rüdiger C. Braun-Dullaeus and Dr. Matthias Kunz from Magdeburg University Hospital will provide exciting insights into modern diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in cardiology.

Magdeburg University Medical Center is stepping up its research into personalized cancer treatments: On November 1, 2025, Prof. Matthias Leisegang will take up the newly created W2 professorship for Translational Immunotherapy at the University Clinic for Hematology, Oncology, and Cell Therapy at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg.

A recent study by Magdeburg University Hospital shows that organoids from patient tissue can help find the most effective treatment for colorectal cancer. An identified protein could serve as a biomarker to support future treatment decisions.

A remarkable treatment success underscores the team's expertise: a baby weighing just 300 grams and born 16 weeks prematurely was able to start life healthy thanks to state-of-the-art intensive care.

With 19 dedicated young scientists from all over Germany, the Young Scientists Academy for Patient-Oriented Research in Thoracic Surgery, funded by the German Research Foundation, has been launched at Magdeburg University Hospital. The aim of the academy is to develop innovative approaches for gentler and more effective treatments for chest diseases.
